The Very Best of David Hasselhoff: fact

January 21, 2009

Sadie sees the Amazon page for “The Very Best of David Hasselhoff” CD .

She is a woman much changed.

“I came across this record at a time in my life when things weren’t going well. My wife had just left me for a contortionist, my kids were all at boarding school and the dog seemed to have a lingering contempt for me that grew more and more vitriolic as the days passed. Then, like Moses into the parted Red Sea, David Hasselhoff stepped into my life and convinced me that things weren’t as bad as they seemed. After initially trying to order a Julio Eglasias CD and ordering a Hasselhoff one in error, I was in turmoil. Thinking to myself that I needed to hear some sweet sweet music (my wife took all the simply red and Dire straits CDs) I put the Hasselhoff CD on. Right from the start I knew this was different.

Glenn Greenwald on Switzerland’s Gitmo

First Gitmo then Switzerland:

It appears that the Guantanamo judges will be receptive to the Obama administration’s request to stay these commissions, as another military judge — this one overseeing the proceedings against five detainees accused of involvement in the 9/11 attacks, including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed — just ordered the commissions stayed for 120 days, as Obama ordered his prosecutors to request.  And the Swiss Government today announced that it will agree to accept released Guantanamo detainees if that helps close the camp, which Switzerland, like most of the civilized world, considers a blight on Western justice and an ongoing violation of international law.  Those are fairly rapid (and encouraging) events for the first 24 hours.

Switzerland - place of Nazism, civic pride and assisted suicide…

Dick Cheney’s wheelchair exit symbolic of prising weapons from his cold dead fingers

Given that the entire debacle was a consolation prize for not being allowed to nuke Iran, and that the Israelis then achieved the dubious distinction of being called liars by George Bush’s spokesman, it’s difficult to see how the neo-cons could be congratulating themselves on their final contribution to the War on Terror, though admittedly given their iqs it’s still possible. I see Dick Cheney’s exit in a wheelchair as the symbolic equivalent of prising his weapons from his cold dead fingers…

As for Zionism, they were arguing about it when the Romans suppressed the Judean Revolt, thus ensuring that the Romans could suppress the Judean Revolt, so I doubt that the Palestinians have any impact whatsoever on that particular ideological obsession. It isn’t susceptible to reason…
